Hazardous waste depot, iWalk iBike

One-day depot for household hazardous waste April 30

The City of Ottawa is proud to join forces with Natural Resources Canada to host a one-day mobile household hazardous waste collection depot on Saturday, April 30. The depot will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 550 Booth Street.

This depot provides a convenient way for residents to help keep the environment free of hazardous household waste such as pesticides, paint thinners, and pool chemicals.

It is surprisingly fast and easy to participate and residents are reminded that only household waste will be accepted (maximum 25 items) at the depot. No commercial waste will be accepted. For a complete listing of acceptable household hazardous waste, visit the City’s website at ottawa.ca/hhw.

Did you know you could return paint products, batteries and waste oil to various Ottawa hardware retailers? Visit www.makethedrop.ca for a location near you.

For more information on waste management and recycling, visit ottawa.ca/recycle or call 3-1-1 (TTY: 613-580-2401).

iWalk iBike – Ottawa’s Active Transportation Initiative

Do you walk or take your bike to get around every day? The City of Ottawa wants to know about it! Visit www.iwalkibike.ca to find out more and to register for this city-wide challenge. I’ll be participating, and will post my results at www.capitalward.ca when the challenge wraps up on June 19.

Walking and cycling for transportation reduces traffic congestion, is eco-friendly, burns calories and saves you money. There are hundreds of reasons for leaving the car at home and it is time to reward residents for taking the initiative.

Register now for your chance to win an OC Transpo bus pass for one year, or one of the other great prizes in the iWalk iBike Sweepstakes, and help make Ottawa a better place for all of us. Runner up prizes are 10 OC Transpo passes for one month and three CAN-BIKE training courses.

And don’t forget, May is Bike to Work Month. Find out how you can participate at www.biketoworkottawa.com.
